Co-operation between Department of Fisheries and Marine and Freshwater Research Institute, Reykjavik, Iceland

  

Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Science, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka established co-operation with Marine and Freshwater Research Institute, Reykjavik, Iceland. Marine and Freshwater Research Institute, Reykjavik, Iceland offers UNU-FTP training programme a 6 months course of study in Marine and Freshwater Resources fully funded by the Iceland Foreign Ministry to graduate students from developing countries.

 

Dr. Tumi Tómasson, Programme Director, UNU-FTP and his colleague Mr. Stefán Úlfarsson visited the University of Jaffna from 4th – 6th February 2018. They had an official meeting with the Vice-Chancellor / University of Jaffna, Dean / Faculty of Science and Head and staff of Department of Fisheries on 5th Feb 2018 in order to officially declare the Co-operation. They conducted an interview for the nominees for the UNU-FTP programme starting in September 2018.

 

UNU-FTP Mission: UNU-FTP works to enhance institutional and individual capacity in developing countries to support the sustainable use of living aquatic resources. UNU-FTP supports partners in meeting their development goals in the field of fisheries through research-based capacity building cooperation.

 

An incessant effort of H.E Jayantha Palipane, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Norway & Iceland is greatly acknowledged at this juncture.
